DKN Exclusive Rumor:John Blake Is Azrael?

DKN Exclusive Rumor:John Blake Is Azrael?

Take this as complete rumor but this morning I got a very interesting email submission from a guy named Cory91. He claims that his friend works for “Wizkids” the makers of “HeroClix” and that while they are currently working on Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises figure sets, they are given in depth descriptions of each character and that there was one character with info we have not yet heard. DC provided them with a very interesting bio for the John Blake figure that had to be hidden from the public at the recent press unavailing and conventions:

“A hard-nosed young Gotham beat cop who is assigned to a special task unit to take down the vigilante known as “The Batman” becomes an unlikely ally to the Dark Knight. When the mercenary known as “Bane” breaks the prisoners out of Blackgate Prison, the city becomes overrun and Blake takes the codename of “Azrael” to help Batman stop Bane.”

Now Cory91 did not provide ANY proof just the above, so again take this with a grain of salt. The only reason I thought this was interesting or plausible is that it loosely aligns with the leaked pictures and videos we’ve seen of Blake and Bruce Wayne talking together and driving somewhere in a car.

Ally to Batman?

We’ve also seen a leaked video of Blake and some gasoline, helping Batman blow up one of Bane’s tumblers. So while Blake may not dawn a costume or turn out to be Robin, maybe a nice code name of “Azrael” would fit?

An example of the new heroclix line.

I personally do not believe this, but I thought it was an interesting enough rumor to share.

Having him be Azrael would be extremely bad . That would make as much sense as putting Venom in Spiderman 3 lol .

    • Kristina

Funny. He’s just a side character. But there have been claims that there is a secret character coming out.

    • Greg

IMHO, if anyone can pull it off, Nolan can. That’s certainly an interesting rumor about JGL’s character I haven’t heard yet. I do think there’s more to “John Blake” than we’ve been told.

  • EBostock

If true and thats a BIG IF guys , it will just be an easter egg name if like we suspect Gordan and his team go rogue and need code names Azreal would make a cool code name and a nice little nod to the fans nothing more !

    • Kristina

      Lol. Nice!

      • EBostock

Hey Kristina i havent forgot about the piece it is somewhat assembled , i was maybe premature saying early in the week , things got hectic and hey i only want to send it to you when its good , as the great Christopher Nolan would say When i am ready to show you something i will show you = )

        • Kristina

Well I’ll patiently wait until you’re good and Nolan ready. Good to know you’re working on it. lol, keep it up.

    who the hell is Azrael???????????????????

    • Galindoran2

      He is AZRAEL

  • Bluetears1984

He is clearly Gordon’s son. That is the whoooole reason why the story line did an 8 year leap. What was he 11? 12? at the end of Dark Knight….Now he is old enough to become a cop and he being the only one who knows the secrets of the Dent murders other than his father you can see why he seems to be kind of a rogue cop.

In the trailer they discuss the mayor dumping Gordon. Then it cuts to a figure watching from above with a hood over their head an a long coat on. I think Nolan made up a new character and its Gordon’s son. A new version of The Boy Wonder.

I personally believe…Bruce will die and an epic…epic….battle 4/5 into the film. And Gordon will go with him but Gordon hangs on long enough to tell his son the secrets he knows of the city’s down fall. This being the scene from the teaser telling the shadow figure that the Batman must come back. And in the end there is one final battle with police and The Batman does come back but its JGL under the hood and the police take control back.

And the secret Nixon as the new commissioner on top of police HQ with Batman 2….not knowing its not the original batman….and it ends just the same as the first one…Nixon hands him a plastic baggy with a Joker card in it telling him he is at large again….and the final few moments of the film is a CGI Joker flash back busting out of jail and the camera creeps down the cell block revealing from the moon light Harvey/Two face sitting in a cell where the door as been open for him to flee.

    • Dwade3heat

I love your possibility of the movie, but why would Nolan end it with the Joker escaping, when this film is supposed to be the conclusion of the trilogy?

    • SinestroYC

WOW. I personally realllllllllllllllllllly hope that is what happens. Very creative and epic theory my friend. Bravo.

    • SinestroYC

I’m sorry to tell you however that the entire theory may fall flat as I do not seem to perceive that ‘figure’ as hooded. I see the overcoat/housecoat that Bruce Wayne wears with the cane or what have you. It’s not too long because you can see it waive at about the hips in the wind. Also, you can clearly see the cane between the posts. There is a reason they show the entire building before in the scene. It is Wayne Manor. He clearly funded the funeral as a clear politcal supporter of Harvey Dent and obviously in honor of Rachel. I do credit you however, as you may notice how very, very similar the chins of Bale and JGL are. You have to put yourself into the mind of Nolan. He is a very smart man. If he were to impose any form of swap, it would be with someone with whom he could film under the costume and place within the trailer without anyone being able to spot the difference. After all, it is just a chin.

I agree with the Azrael theory. Also, have any of you played the game Arkham City??? Towards the very end of the game, after you achieve nearly all the side missions and the storyline is comlete, Azrael makes an appearance. Here is his Bio:

“Born Michael Lane, Azrael was once a police officer based in Gotham City. His first appearance in the Batman series was in March 2009, in Azrael: Death’s Dark Knight no.1. Lane was once part of an initiative to create “the ultimate crime fighter,” however it turned him into a criminal. Once captured by Batman, Lane confessed his sins to a priest of the Order of Purity. He was then recruited to “fight evil as their crusader Azrael” while wearing the Suit of Sorrows and using the Sword of Sin. The Suit of Sorrows will defeat Lane if he does not keep his soul pure.”

Brief story behind Azrael in Arkham City:

As Bruce Wayne is entering Arkham City, Azrael can be seen watching him on a roof top nearby, he vanishes when you get closer to him.

Batman encounters Azrael (birth name is Michael Lane) many times throughout the game, where he gives cryptic statements before disappearing and leaving an ambiguous symbol. He appears to be stalking Batman (hence, the side mission title “Mystery Stalker”). Once all the symbols are collected, they form a map of Azrael’s location, leading Batman to the Gotham Cathedral. At the church, Azrael reveals that he has been sent to observe Batman, believing he is a warrior foretold by an ancient prophecy. He reveals he was sent by the Order of St. Dumas to deliver the prophecy to Batman, claiming he is Gotham’s only hope. He tells how Gotham City will burn, and that Batman is the “warrior” who will save Gotham, but will fall in the process. Batman remains skeptical of Azrael’s prophecy claiming he does not believe in fairy tales, but Azrael holds firm in his belief, telling Batman to heed his warning, wishing him luck as he departs Arkham City.
