If you thought that books like The New 52: Futures End and Earth 2: World’s End were paving the way for something huge, you were correct. Today, DC formally announced the big crossover event, Convergence, slated to kick off April 2015. April 1 will see the finales of both Futures End and World’s End arrive in comic shops, in addition to Convergence #0 which will be co-written by Jeff King and Dan Jurgens and illustrated by Ethan Van Sciver. Not only that, King (who has brought us TV shows such as White Collar and Continuum) will pen Convergence #1-8. Each issue will feature art by  Carlo Pagulayan and Stephen Segovia. Cover art will be provided by Ivan Reis and Joe Prado.

So, what exactly is Convergence? It’s a weekly series that will run throughout April and May and will be accompanied by 40 two-part mini-series focusing on various characters by creators yet to be named. USA Today eloquently summed up the event as follows: “The alien supervillain Brainiac has trapped cities from various timelines and planets that have ended, brought them in domes to a planet outside of time and space, and is now opening them for a great experiment to see what happens when all these folks meet.”

Yes, you will see Donna Troy, Blue Beetle, the Justice Society of America, and other pre-New 52 characters.

“We’re picking up at points of their lives where we left them and finding out what’s gone on with them since then,” said co-publisher Dan DiDio.

A new villain named Telos will also emerge, intending to follow Brainiac’s lead. He’s said to be born of Brainiac and this mysterious planet, even taking on traits of said world. It will be interesting to see what that entails.

“What we’re really addressing is they all exist and have existed and exist within the framework of the New 52,” co-publisher Jim Lee adds. Convergence is in many ways the most meta epic event we’ve done.”

Stay tuned to DKN as more details of this mega event are released. Before we part ways, treat yourself to a look at this promo art by Carlo Pagulayan and Jose Marzan, Jr with colors by Hi-Fi.
