DKN: FAN ROUNDTABLE 1

Hey! Kristina here,

This is the first Fan Roundtable and it would be great to see different views and opinions on the subject matter of TV Spot #2.  TV Spot #2 showed some interesting new footage of The Dark Knight Rises. I had a conversation with a DKN Fan: Phillip Heath on his thoughts of TV Spot #2:

Phillip Heath (PH): Ohhhh, whats your thoughts on TV Spot #2

Dark Knight News (DKN): LOVE IT! I screamed when I saw it on Modern Family. Catwoman on my 22in TV was amazing. She is going to steal the show. I think i have watched this one like 20x on youtube. You, Phillip?

PH: Ummm, the smoke and hidden destruction of the Gotham Skyline said it all at the end of the commercial, Bane looked huge and all these scenes from the trailers and spots, you can just point out all the IMAX scenes.

But I dont get everyone’s confusion of Catwoman, I think she’s somewhat thankful to Bane for breaking her out but then realizes he’s more into the destruction of Gotham, causing mental and physical pain on Batman, maybe she finds out Bruce is Batman and goes on his side.

I think obviously the backbreaking moment happens within the 30-45 min mark of the film, Bane lets Bruce live only for him to maybe witness but for sure that he’s destroying Gotham, everything Batman and Harvey Dent did is destroyed, the dirt poor people who suffered from crime in the city rise to a new leader in Bane, Bane lets Bruce rot in depression but he really wants him to gain his strength and spirit back, climb out of the prison (hole) as a test, then come see what Gotham is now, Bane wants to fight him and destroy him in front of thousands of people instead of doing it again in the Batcave, just a thought, that’s what I get from the whole Bruce in lockdown theme.  In a way Bane is playing Man’s Most Dangerous Game, and he’s been planning it for 8 yrs.

DKN:  Hey Phillip! Do you mean The Most Dangerous Game where man is being hunted?

(PH): Yeah, but that game also means Man is the hardest thing to kill, killing Batman in front of nobody in the Batcave would’ve been “lame” you break his body and spirit, let him come back with him knowing his city is ruined and turned against him, fight Batman in front of all of Gotham, defeat me in front of everybody, thats the game Bane is maybe playing

As for Catwoman, she is someone who will change sides if it benefits her best when it is morally, financially, or beneficial to her. She has her own moral codes and guidelines she follows that is not based upon villainy or heroism. She is at best an anti-hero who is neither hero nor villain. She is the grey between darkness and light. That is why she is so puurfecct!

For some on this site, I have discussed this topic with you on what we thought about how Bane will take over and when will Bane break Batman’s back. We even discussed the use of Gotham citizens in the movie and how they will be used in the movie. I liked the  that Heath referenced to The Most Dangerous Game and expanded more on the subject of what the story was about. The Most Dangerous Game is when man turns from being a hunter to becoming the hunted by his fellow man, in which the hunter becomes the prey and his fellow man has all the advantages. This is similar to Bane who has rallied followers for a guerilla warfare, where there are no limitations to how far they will go to fight. Plus, Bane has the upper hand because he knows the identity of Batman and where the Batcave is. Bane as the hunter has tracked his prey (Batman) to his habitat and ambushed him. For Batman, who has become the prey (the persecuted)  in Gotham City (his own habitat). He will have to push himself to the breaking point of his own limitations and moral codes to defeat Bane. So, when Batman says “Not everything, not yet.” This is his admission to go beyond his limitations. The Most Dangerous Game has some inclination to The Dark Knight Rises. If you have read the story by Richard Connell it is a story that leaves you speechless.

I think that the showdown between Bane and Batman will be secluded because we continuously see from the photo stills that the two are found near a sewage line. I think that they will fight underground where the water is because Bane might be doing something similar to the League of Shadows. Where Bane’s plot might be to drug the water line or it might be where the seismic destruction device “Gotham’s Liberation” will destroy the foundation of buildings.

Comment below or on DKN Facebook  on the Roundtable discussion about Bane as the hunter and Batman as the prey. Do you think Richard Connell’s short story, The Most Dangerous Game, relates to The Dark Knight Rises? What are your views on Catwoman and her switching sides? Do you think the showdown between Bane and Batman will be in front of everyone or somewhere secluded? Will follow in League of Shadows footsteps or go his own “Gotham Liberation?”  Should I continue DKN: Fan Roundtable? Your feedback helps with the up keep and the continuation of the site. Also, we are trying to make the site a little bit more original to our name.  Thanks for being awesome!

    okay here’s what I think (going in order of questions asked)

    1. never read the most dangerous game

    2. Catwoman and her switching sides is perfect bc u must always get that right if you are making something based kmon her; i like the analogy that she is gray that is the middle of black and white

    3. I think the showdown of batman and bane could be secluded but bane might beat batman enough to be weak and finish him off in front of everyone.

    4. I think Bane connects to the league of shadows somehow and so does miranda tate and bane wants to finish was Ras had started and so does Miranda if she turns out bad. Gary Oldman did say that this is full circle

    5. Yes continue fan roundtable; its interesting to know what other people think and to here theories that I never had thought about. I feel like my opinions are more noticed and heard. This batman site is awesome and its still getting better.

    • Kristina

      Thank you for your input. I agree w/ 2. Number 3 has me thinking. Band might say “this is your fallen hero. I have liberated as I will liberate Gotham, in damnation.” Cue, Hans Zimmer. Dun dun dun! 4. Most definitely, if you see in pictures Miranda is somewhere with Bruce talkinh underground at Wayne Enterprise.

  • micah russell

    i totally agree with the breaking him within the first 45 minutes of the film, like it says in trailer #1, he has been out of the game for too long and needs to get back in. also i think it starts out like “the dark knight returns” by frank miller, and batman sees all this, immorality in the city and since it is time to return. as for the end of tv spot 2, i totally got a since of the no man’s land graphic novel. and i really hope they play into bane’s back story, as alfred says, bane, born in raised in hell on earth, more than likely talking about the prison that bane grew up in serving his father’s life sentence becoming who he is today, the “bane” of everything

    • h4v0k_528491

      that last theory is interesting about him growing up in a prison. Also i beloeve the movie will take stuff from No Man’s Land and The Dark Knight Returns. I think he does get his back broken and starts to recover

      • Kristina

        Do you think it might be a flashback movie?

        • h4v0k_528491

          i think this movie will have flashbacks sort of like batman begins did but probably not as much. I think there will be a couple of scenes, then the 8-year time jump

          • http://www.facebook.com/meecahmochaminkis Micah Russell

            yea i agree with this, i think they will not try to live off of the old movies and stuff to much, but they will possibly use flashbacks to fill in the gaps

          • Kristina

            Fanboy nods to them, homages and such.

    • Kristina

      How much of frank miller do you think is in the movie? Bane’s backstory will be heartbreaking I think.

      • Micah Russell

        im not really sure how much of the frank miller comic will be in there, i think it will definitely take from the premise of his book, but probably just enough, considering batman is 55 in that book, robin is a girl, and batman beats up superman with a metal suit, i don’t think they will take from the details as much as the will the idea behind it.

        • Kristina

          Cherry picking nolan. Damn him, I love him.

  • Phillip_percent

    They did use source material from Dark Knight Returns, No Mans Land and Knightfall

    • http://www.darkknightnews.com Kristina

      Yes, and they cherry picked thru those. What the question is which of the two books is the movie really based on?

    • Kristina

      True but which of the two is the movie really based on in your opinion?

      • Phillip_percent

        The ideas from those comics are all mixed in together, but since its Bane, the main comic series right away that is brought up is Knightfall

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/CGQ4OLTCM5BRW2N6DVNQJQQ5HU Geoffrey

    I think Catwoman, in this film, is going to be much like the character from the source material. First, she’s going to be at odds with Batman…then later she’ll become his ally & assist him in his apocalyptic war against Bane. Her line to Bruce Wayne “I’m adaptable” is quite clever & it winks at the character’s famous on again, off again relationship.

    As far as Richard Connell’s short story being incorporated into the film, Christopher Nolan builds the main narratives of his Batman films off existing legendary source materials. He adds pieces from different Batman stories to craft together an original story of his own…all the while winking & nodding to the sources he was inspired by. He’s brilliant! :-) I wouldn’t be surprised if elements of “The Most Dangerous Game” were included.

    Based on the footage we’ve all seen, I think there will be two climatic showdowns between Batman & Bane. First fight will probably be in the Bat-Cave (which will be an homage to the “Knightfall” story arc). The second fight looks to be taking place downtown near Gotham City Hall. From the looks of that awesome banner, Bane’s henchmen & the Gotham City police force & military will duke it out in addition to Batman & Bane brutally finishing where they left off.

    The scene where Bane is walking up the steps towards Batman while Batman is standing there, foaming at the mouth, clinching his fist, FULLY prepared to fight this time, gives me chills!

    This film is going to be above & beyond awesome! :-)

    • Phillip_percent

      They filmed two massive rumbles, one at the Pittsburgh City Hall and in NY, is it all pieced together or are there two different rumbles in the movie

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/CGQ4OLTCM5BRW2N6DVNQJQQ5HU Geoffrey

        @Phillip:

        I think they’re pieced to together.

        But in all honesty, so much of this movie remains a BIG mystery. Maybe there’s a third major conflict in this film? Who knows. lol

        If so, i’m all for it! It’ll be more fuel for the rising fire! :-)

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/CGQ4OLTCM5BRW2N6DVNQJQQ5HU Geoffrey

    I just want to say that Anne Hathaway looks stunningly beautiful, sexy & bad ass as Selena Kyle & Catwoman! :-)

    All of the people who were harshly criticizing her, her Catwoman suit & her involvement in this film, are clearly in the minority now!

    I’m very happy & thrilled that she’s shutting people up & winning them over at the same time! lol :-)

    • Keadan

      “All of the people who were harshly criticizing her, her Catwoman suit & her involvement in this film, are clearly in the minority now!”

      And don’t you just know these were the same people who scoffed at the very notion that Heath Ledger was cast as the Joker.

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/CGQ4OLTCM5BRW2N6DVNQJQQ5HU Geoffrey

        @Keadan:

        I know right? lol

        These people are always so quick to judge everyone &…EVERYTHING!!

        Well, they were 100% wrong about Heath as The Joker & they’re already being proved wrong by Anne Hathaway & Tom Hardy!

        Their versions of Catwoman & Bane will own all!
        :-)

        • Keadan

          After hearing about the casting of Tom Hardy as Bane I immediatley thought of him in Bronson and said he’d be one of the greatest on-screen villians, an opinion which was cemented in concrete after seeing him in Warrior last year.

          • http://profile.yahoo.com/CGQ4OLTCM5BRW2N6DVNQJQQ5HU Geoffrey

            @Keadan:

            I agree with you 100% about Tom Hardy!

            He’s a great actor!

            Bronson, Warrior, Inception…I have always been impressed with his acting chops! He’s both very intense & charismatic. His version of Bane will be every bit as great as Heath Ledger’s version of The Joker.

            I already view his Bane as the definitive interpretation of the character.
            :-)

            .

    • h4v0k_528491

      I knew she could pull of selena because you can tell she can act if you have seen her serious movies like tachel getting married. I like the catwoman suit and in my opinion its my favorite catwoman costume there has ever been. There is so much more we dont know about the suit like what her goggles can do and whats in her utility belt.

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/CGQ4OLTCM5BRW2N6DVNQJQQ5HU Geoffrey

        @h4v0k_528491:

        I knew she could do the character justice as well. :-)

        I’m guessing people had a hard time seeing her in a serious role. Her usual charming, fun, bubbly personality, in a lot of peoples eyes, didn’t scream Catwoman.

        But they forgot that she’s a really good actress! And she can do a ton of great stuff with well written material. And as far as people believing she’s “not a physical match” for the Catwoman character’s sexy physique…well, since day one, they made fools of themselves for believing that. lol

        Ms. Hathaway is a very beautiful woman! And after seeing her in the film “Love & Other Drugs”, I say she matches Catwoman’s sexy physique just fine! :-)

        As for her Cat-suit, I think the goggles will have some kind of night vision & other means of assistance when she’s being a burglar. The utility belt may conceal gadgets she stole from Wayne Enterprises. The heels on her boots look like stabbing weapons. The heels clearly won’t just be there for the sole purpose of making her butt stand out more. lol

        Her butt looks mighty fine btw. ;-)

        • Kristina

          Ah yes! The little cat burglar. I wonder why she’s a maid at Wayne Manor? I wonder what’s the story behind that.

          • Phillip_percent

            she takes his Mom’s pearls

          • http://profile.yahoo.com/CGQ4OLTCM5BRW2N6DVNQJQQ5HU Geoffrey

            @Phillip_percent:

            I heard many rumors that the pearls around her neck belonged to Bruce’s mother.

            But if you notice in the scene where Bruce & Selena are dancing, she’s wearing those same pearls around her neck.

            I don’t think Bruce would be in a very pleasant mood after seeing Selena wear them.

            Or, maybe he’s cool with her wearing them?

            Because he wasn’t upset during that scene.

            I don’t know.

            Guess we’ll all find out when we see the film. The suspense is killing me inside! lol
            :-)

          • h4v0k_528491

            found the batcave somehow? Obviously she knows who batman is because in tv spot 2 she said “oh yeah, who are you pretending to be”.

            @h4vok_528491:

            Good point!

  • Phillip_percent

    The visual effects guy for the film said this last cut is about 3 hrs, what do you think? I go with 165 mins

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/CGQ4OLTCM5BRW2N6DVNQJQQ5HU Geoffrey

      @Philip:

      I just read this information on another site. If this is true, the more DKR, the better!

      But i’ll be cool with 165 mins. Overall, I don’t care what this film’s duration is! I just wanna see it. lol July 20th isn’t getting here fast enough!

      THE FIRE RISES!!!

      Oh…have you seen the latest DKR banner? It’s awesome! It features Batman in a classic pose fanning fire away with his cape.

      It’s officially my new wallpaper! :-)

      • Kristina

        people said last time that TDK was too long. do you think we’ll get an intermission this time?

        • Phillip_percent

          if its 3 hrs and people bitch and complain, they have Bane’s permission to die

          • http://profile.yahoo.com/CGQ4OLTCM5BRW2N6DVNQJQQ5HU Geoffrey

            @Phillip_percent:

          @Kristina:

          Maybe we will.

          But in all honesty, our eye’s will be so glued to the theater screen, that the mere thought of leaving the film for a few seconds, sounds ludicrous. lol

          People who said TDK was too long, have very weak bladders. My advice to them, don’t drink too much soda before & during the movie. lol

          • Phillip_percent

            top grossing movies are all over 150+ mins….. nuff said

      if it is thats fine with me but i think it will be around 2hours and 45 minutes

  • Phillip_percent

    i really doubt it but what if the Prologue we all saw wasnt the Prologue and that the ending of The Dark Knight was really the Prologue, an injured Batman gets broken by Bane and that Bane was actually watching Bruce the whole time like in the comics, when i read that theory a couple months back i was trippin out so much, what do you think? wouldnt that of been a shocker? i know it isnt because i dont see Bane destroying Gotham for 8 yrs, but man that was a crazy ass theory

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/CGQ4OLTCM5BRW2N6DVNQJQQ5HU Geoffrey

      @Phillip_percent:

      A very intriguing theory indeed!

      WOW!!

    also i think that most people need to remember on top of everything else, mentioning source material outside of the batman world such as “the most dangerous game” and all. nolan has mentioned that charles dickens’ “a tale of two cities” is a large portion behind what exactly is going on with gotham, i really want to see more theories on that.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/CGQ4OLTCM5BRW2N6DVNQJQQ5HU Geoffrey

      @Micah Russell:

      The “A Tale Of Two Cities” inspiration is a most intriguing one!

      Christopher Nolan is such a sophisticated director & writer. It’s going to be both interesting & exciting watching the narrative in the film unfold before our eye’s.

    • Kristina

      Hmmm…we should talk about Dickens’ book for TDKR ROUNDTABLE. What do you think?
