At the Man of Steel press junket, director Zack Snyder reveals an Easter egg that may or may not hint at a shared DC cinematic universe. Click the jump to see more.

News broke out this week that seemed to squash any hope for a shared DC cinematic universe that fans were hoping would begin with the upcoming Man of Steel and end with a Justice League live-action movie, when writer David S. Goyer, producer Josh Roven, and director Zack Snyder denied any reference to Batman, Bruce Wayne, and/or Gotham City. The overall justification being that they wanted the focus to be entirely on Superman.

However, the following day, news surfaced that seemed to contradict this claim. While at a press junket for Man of Steel in Los Angeles, director Zack Snyder was asked about the possibility of a Justice League movie coming soon. Snyder, however, believes that he’d be working on a Man of Steel sequel before a Justice League flick because he believes Supes needs to do a bit of growing before leading a team of superpowered individuals.

Obviously, that’s not where the contradiction lies. It was just necessary information to properly set up the next line of questioning posed to the director. The contradiction is in the little easter egg he revealed:

“The Wayne Enterprises logo is on a satellite that Zod destroys.”

BOOM! There you have it. With that, we can likely assume that either Snyder was having a bit of fun with his comic book reading audience or Superman lives within the same universe where a Bruce Wayne exists! I can only imagine the reporters at the event. I know I would have been foaming at the mouth with anticipation. The reveal was quickly followed-up with another question of whether or not we’d see a team-up between Batman and Superman in Man of Steel 2. You know, now that we know that Snyder wants to do Man of Steel 2 before Justice League. He answers in a very coy manner:

“I don’t know. Everything is interesting at this point. And don’t forget that Lex is out there, doing who knows what…”

Zack… you are one smooth MFer. It would take the likes of Lex Luthor to necessitate the formation of the World’s Finest. I don’t want to jump the gun and get too excited when this could just be Snyder teasing fans. I mean there has to be a reason that he denied the Batman reference in the presence of Goyer and Roven, right? After the Kevin Conroy Arkham Origins debacle, I try not assume anything and actually listen to what these people say because people can twist words around and reveal a lot less than they intend to.

Aside from actually waiting to see this materialize, the problem now is having to deal with the Batman-haters and Superman-fanboys screaming bloody murder about how Supes doesn’t need the Bats to take down Luthor.

What do you think? Are they really setting up a shared DC cinematic universe? Or is it nothing more than a little fun? What does this mean about the previous statement by the director that there were no Batman references in Man of Steel? Let me know.
