If you love to see DC characters in animated form, this news will excite you as much as it did I. The online network Machinima has secured the rights to exclusively air a three part mini-series titled Justice League: Gods and Monsters Chronicles. Apparently it involves darker interpretations of characters like Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. Perhaps they’re just willing to cross the line or maybe they’re more akin to the Justice Lords from the Justice League animated series that ran a decade ago.

If the title sounds familiar to you, it should. This mini-series will lead into the direct-to-video animated film Justice League: Gods and Monsters that will hit shelves sometime in 2015. The episodes will debut in the spring and drop in the weeks leading up to the film’s release. Hopefully these episodes will be included on the home release as bonus features.

Don’t fret at the sound of darker heroes because the project is in good hands. It’s being produced by DC animation royalty in the form of Bruce Timm and Alan Burnett (Batman: The Animated Series).

“Ever since we announced the Warner Bros. strategic investment, we have been looking for a new and exciting way to tap into the company’s unmatched content,” said Chad Gutstein, CEO of Machinima, whom Warner Bros. invested $18 million dollars in earlier this year.

DC Entertainment president Diane Nelson had the following to say: “We are committed to delivering DC Entertainment’s extensive line-up of world-class characters and stories to audiences across all platforms and formats. ‘Justice League: Gods and Monsters’ is an exciting opportunity to bring alternate versions of DC Comics’ iconic Justice League characters to Machinima, and we look forward to bringing this new animated shortform series to life with our partners across Warner Bros.”

No word on who the voice actors may be. Stay tuned to DKN.
