New York Comic Con’s panel for Batman: Bad Blood just wrapped and it was a real dandy. Said panel included producer James Tucker, character designer Phil Bourassa, director Jay Oliva, Gaius Charles (voice of Batwing), and Jason O’Mara (voice of Batman). After showing some never before seen footage to the crowd, the gentlemen decided to share some insight into the film.

Here are some of the finer points:

  • The movie kind of came about because Tucker simply wanted to make a movie featuring Batwoman, Batwing, and for Nightwing to dress like Batman.
  • The creative team wanted to use Bat-family characters who haven’t appeared in animation.
  • Batwing’s suit is a “version 1.0” of the Batman Beyond suit.
  • Regarding Batman being missing and presumed dead in the movie, O’Mara states that Batman is “under major duress” and the film will explore “what makes Bruce Wayne tick.”
  • Charles, a lifelong Batman fan, calls the gig “amazing.”
  • Oliva says “hopefully more Batwoman films” will come from this.

They also took the time to answer questions from fans in attendance, which yielded some juicy tidbits:

  • Gotham City Sirens movie is a possibility.
  • Fans’ pleas for Young Justice Season 3 have been heard. The crowd chanted “Young Justice” rather loudly, but Tucker kind of tried to play it off.
  • The Killing Joke animated movie may be R-Rated.
  • Although Dick Grayson and Damian Wayne are the only Robins to don the costume in this universe, Jason Todd and Tim Drake do exist. They just aren’t Robin yet.
  • It’s possible for a Death of the Family movie to happen; it’s contingent on Killing Joke sales.
  • Batman Beyond comes up in conversations from time to time. It just won’t happen within the next year.
  • There are plans for the Teen Titans. I’m reasonably certain they’re referring to the Justice League vs. Titans movie coming in 2016.
  • Charles would like to play Green Lantern John Stewart.

For those unfamiliar, here’s the featurette from the Justice League: Gods and Monsters DVD that details the story.

Batman: Bad Blood arrives on DVD and Blu-Ray in early 2016.
